Individuals who are addicted to heroin usually quickly distinguish between two groups of people in their life; those who they use with, and those who they do not. The effect of this distinction often results in less and less time being spent with family and non-using friends – the people who wish to provide help – thus destroying relationships.

The effect of heroin can often blind individuals to the importance of other aspects of their life, such as their employment or education. Heroin becomes the priority and all other activities are usually neglected or forgotten completely. Funding their drug habit will often then become a problem and individuals may consider turning to crime to access money.
